The SSD was recently replaced with a high-quality Toshiba one, so will likely outlast the laptop itself. Does it thermal throttle: No, it uses Honeywell PTM 7950 and has two powerful fans. Temperatures reach 90C+ under full load, but I have not noticed significant throttling.
